One of the wonderful
things about this site is that the content is made up of some wonderful
contributions from our readers. This is yet another example of
such a contribution
Locke-Ober is a wonderful restaurant in Boston whose history
stretches back to the mid 1800's.
One of our readers happened upon a copy of their wine list and
menu from 1939 and sent it to us.
What wonderful times these must have been when the most expensive
entree was Filet Mignon for $2.00 that could have been served with
a 1924 Margaux for $4.00 and for dessert you could enjoy a 1928
d'Yquem for $5.75.
Hmmmmmmmmmm wouldn't it be nice today if Grand Cru wines at restaurants
were served at twice the price of the entree ???
One other thing that was nice back then ........ A glass of Bushmills
($0.40) was less than a side order of fresh peas ( $0.50 )
