Penland
Hand Bookbinding: Past and Future
Betsy signed up for this course. It was something she had never done before and she enjoyed learning these age old techniques. The course was described as "investigate the traditions, methods, and future of the sewn board bookbinding. This prototype, associated with the earliest books, emerged in late antiquity and influenced bookbinding methods for centuries but went into dormancy before the invention of printing. Now the sewn board structure is returning to exemplify bookbinding in the digital print era. "

The course was taught by Gary Frost of the University of Iowa ... Gary maintains a website on bookbinding and book conservation at www.futureofthebook.com .

As with the other pages we've created, we were not able to get all of the names of the creators of these works. If you know who they were, please drop us an email and we will be glad to list them
