John and Phyllis F. of Las Vegas sent in what has to be THE most innovative uses for corks that we have ever seen !! We are truly indebted to them for sharing this with us

John writes - Our love of wine (and saving corks for a number of years) inspired us to do a cork baseboard after we had new wood (Bamboo) flooring installed. It really is nice to settle down on the floor with a great glass, and look at the cork halves and recall the original drinking experience. The project required about 80 linear feet of this baseboard for kitchen, family room, and dining room.

You can email John with any questions at jfried@lvcm.com

Here is Phyllis splitting away. Made ease with a 16" long piece of 3/4" PVC slit a couple of inches from the end to fit over the blade, them clamped to saw bed. Just load it up & push them through the PVC (orient them so they split how you want as far as cork labels go.)
Line up one edge of the corks (all different lengths, right?) using only ones longer than 1.5 inches. Hot glue gun makes easy work to attach to masonite strip.
Trim both edges of strip to width of 1.5".

Cut 3/8" square using table saw, use a 3/8" roundover bit in the router to make quarter-round top piece.

( Art's note - if you don't have a router you might find some quarter round molding and square moulding that would work )

Cut strips to 3/8" square, route the top on to 3/4 round so the top of the baseboard doesn't collect dust. Glue & clamp (I used urethane glue, will never come apart!)
Here is what it looks like with the bamboo flooring.
Height of the baseboard is 2 1/4".
