| negociant |
Imagine being and owner of one of several thousand
small vineyards in France .. you can grow grapes but you can't afford
to buy all of the stuff to make the wine ... enter the negociant.
They are much much more than an wine broker. In many cases, they
take in the grapes and then actually oversee the production and bottling
of the wine. In burgundy .. many of the negotiants (i.e. Jadot, Drouhin
) are famous in their own right. Of course, negotiants also buy up
finished wine from smaller producers and market it themselves or
sell it in bulk to others. |
| negociant-eleveur |
