Huub Writes ...

The cellar is for 2/3 below ground level, the window at the end is just above it. So with an outside temp. range, in Holland, from -20 degr C, in winter to 35 degr C in summer (Min-Max, usually not so low/high), the cellar temp is between +2 (winter) and +15 (summer). Certainly a bit too wide range for proper wine storage. There is no insulation. It is a farmhouse, built around 1815, and the farmer used it for preparing and storing cheeses, in those days.

On the left side some opened and unopened boxes containing bottles, too young to drink now. On the end some bottles self-made wine, from elder and blackcurrent. Mainly undrinkable. On the upper right two vessels with self-brewed beer, too old to drink, I brewed them about 10 yrs ago. Lower right, wines to drink. And on the end, left, a horror to a real wine lover, some tins of paint.

Here's Huub's picture of a simple, practical cellar.
