Who says you have to spend a fortune for a cellar
??!! ... Art & Betsy
Paul writes ...
This is an old coal cellar ( 8' wide x 14' long x 7' high) in the front of
an 1843 townhouse in Manhattan. It was a dumping ground for the previous owners
things until we cleared it out, repainted and built in cabinets with leftover
materials from our home renovation. We could probably get 2,000 bottles in if
I can negotiate for more wine space with my Ariane vs. her storage space. But
I think that we are probably doing ok with the 500 we have now.

The cellar stays between 50 and 65 deg. F. easily with a simple
heat lamp in the light socket in the winter and a 5000 Btu cheapo A/C in the summer.
I am planning on adding a thermostat to the A/C unit so that I can let the cooling
run a bit longer and lower the summer temps a bit.
