Rod S. of Salt Lake City, Utah did a great job building his cellar and we're
glad to share it here with you. He writes ...
I have enjoyed looking at other people's cellars, so I thought that I had better
get pictures of mine in now that it is done.
I used the Gold book for my plans. The cellar is located in our unfinished
storage room in the basement.

The room has double 2x4 stud walls for a wall thickness of 12 inches. They
are filled with R-38 insulation. I have added a 2 inch foam board inside and with
the 1/2 inch wallboard gives me an R54 total insulation. The door is built according
to the Gold book plan. It is 6 inches thick with 4 inches of foam board inside
for a total insulation value of R-30. This next picture is a view of the door
and wall that shows the thickness of them. I have since added a complete weather
stripping to the door.

This picture shows the view looking left from just outside the door. It is
an odd collection of bins, an old bookcase with cardboard boxes in it and a few
old cardboard cases. If I even get motivated and need more storage, I can put
more racking in this side. The ceiling is filled with R30 insulation in the joists
and the 2 inch foam board for a total R44 insulation. The few pieces of slats
on the ceiling are for putting nails through to hold the foam board to the joists.
There are a few bottles of other spirits in there as well. It keeps them nice
sipping tempature.

This next picture is looking to the right from just outside the door. It has
single bottle racking for about 375 bottles.

The room is currently passive. Right now (first week of November) it has cooled
down to 59 degrees. Although this is my first year, I believe that it will cycle
from a low of around 50 degrees to a high of 64 degrees across the year. If there
is a problem with the tempature getting too hot, I have a location where I can
install a cooler. With the insulation, it should not have to run much assuming
I even need it.
Thanks for having a fun place to view the work others have done. It inspired
me to do mine.
