We're not sure which we enjoyed most, the pictures of Ronald's cellar ..
or fawning over it's wonderful contents - Art & Betsy
From the Netherlands, Ronald writes .....
My wineroom is in the basement of the house, partially under groundlevel with
an average temperature in the hottest part of the summer from about 21 degrees
C. and in the winter around 15 degrees C.
I have split the former room in 2 parts. I insulated the walls with 10 cm thick
glassfibre insulation blankets. The separation wall between the wineroom and the
remaining part is also insualted with 10 cm insulation blankets. To make it attractive
we have built a "library" against the wall through which you are able to access
the wineroom.
[Picture 1] The wineroom itself
is 2.50 x 3.00 meters and gives room for around 1300 bottles. I have space for
950 bottles in the iron racks and the other bottles are stored in their original
cases.
[Picture 2]
On the left of the foto is the entrance door. The cases are put, in what was
previously a closet, and is now a nice place to put cases. On the top is a shelf
which I use to store the magnum size bottles.
[Picture 3] This picture is
the area with the Bordeaux and Bourgogne wines. The left is the first rack with
white wine's, mainly Elzas.
[Picture 4] Looking further
to the left, starting again with the Elzas from the previous picture moving to
other white wines and Rhone wines. In the left corner the Whisperkool 3000 is
mounted. The backside of the unit ends in what was previously a window to the
garden.
[Picture 5] Once again turning
further to the left as well in Time. Some more case were added since the previous
picture. The winerack is a double rack containing Loire wines and the more every
day wines (Monday till Thursday wines)
[Picture 6] The last picture
shows some odd wines like singles bottles of port, german icewines, sweet wines
from mister Bouscasse and a collection of Sauternes, most of them in half bottles.
