I've enjoyed your web site for quite a while. I've been meaning to contribute
something for quite a while and finally got around to scanning some labels and
making a few cellar pictures with the handy digital camera.
My interest in wines really didn't start until a couple of years ago. Before
that I was pretty much a casual wine drinker. It sort of went into high gear about
a year and a half ago when I was transferred to California. I'm about 25 miles
east of San Francisco and only about an hour drive from Napa Valley. Those Saturday
trips up to the valley on a regular basis are great.
My cellar isn't much to speak of , but yes, you CAN have a wine cellar in
an apartment. I have a 3.5' X 5.5' storage room on my balcony that works great.
I lined the room with 2" styrofoam insulation, put down particle board on the
styrofoam on the floor, and replaced the hollow core door with a solid core. I
mounted (actually I had a carpenter do it) a cooling unit in the door and used
Crate & Barrel "Tinker Toy" wine racks. I haven't finished all of the racking
yet, but when completed, my little cellar will hold about 360 bottles. Current
inventory is about 250 bottles, mostly California reds.
Thanks for maintaining such an enjoyable web site!

Tim's great work just goes to show that you can do a lot with a small space.
