A well known punster once observed that there is at least one store selling wine for every four Parisians and that every Parisian visits each of his or her favorite stores thrice weekly. He was probably correct and nearly everyone has their list of favorites. So many people have asked me where I prefer to shop for wines in Paris that the time has finally come to post this list. I make no claim that the following list contains all or nearly all of the best or the most famous wine stores in Paris. The stores listed are, however, my personal favorites.

Caves Auge: 116 Blvd Hausmann, Paris 8.
An excellent overall selection and good Ports, Cognac, Armagnac and Champagne. Competitive prices

Fauchon: 26 - 30 Place de la Madeline, Paris 8
A magnificent selection but definitely on the expensive side.

Cave Hediard, 21 Place de la Madeleine, Paris 8
Best selection of Bordeaux wines in the city! Also good selection of Armagnac, Cognac and Calvados. Prices can be high but bargains can be found.

Caves Petrissans 30 bis Ave Niel, Paris 17
Small place but packed with fine Bordeaux and Burgundy and a fine wine bar!!! If ever I had to list any single place in Paris that I could not live without, this would be that place!

Les Caves Taillevent, 199 Rue du Faubourg St. Honore, Paris 8
Related to the restaurant, nearly 500,000 bottles on sale! Regular tastings are scheduled. Definitely on the high side, but worth a visit and bargains, especially in lesser known but excellent country-wines can be found.

LeGrand Fille et Fils: 1 rue de la Banque, Paris 2
Old fashioned and charming store, specializing in lesser-known areas such as Savoie, Cahors, etc. Nice people who are willing to sit and talk.

And would you believe, on Rue Mouffetard, be sure to visit Nicolas!!! You will be surprised at what excellent wines and good prices they have!! Snobs scorn Nicolas. I never pass up a chance to visit this branch and have made some of the best buys of my life there.
